Week 10: New Zealand Kings
I've just returned from filming an Escape With ET Series 15 episode, off the Coromandel Peninsular in New Zealand. The weather was perfect which meant calm seas over our three fishing days. Carl from Epic Adventures was taking us to his hot spots and he has plenty to choose from. The target species was BIG Kingfish- that's fish over 20 kg. Day one we headed wide and caught some nice fish using yellowtail for live baits in depths between 50-100 m, the biggest being a fish around 17kg.
Day 2 was a ripper, joining me on our Kingfish quest was a 13 year old local called Jack. Jack was a mad fisho and the perfect person to take out. His biggest fish to date had been a 10 kg Alabcore, but on this day his biggest fish was well over 20 kg! After that great king fish action, on day 3 we decided to fish the washes with soft plastics for Snapper. We had a blast fishing around the many reefs, casting into the washes and pulling in some healthy snapper from out of the shallows.
What an amazing place, with breathtaking scenery. If you want to add some amazing fishing action to your trip, head out with Carl from Epic Adventures!
