What is the NRL coin program?

The NRL program is an exclusive program consisting of 19 new collectible coins, developed by the Royal Australian Mint in partnership with Anaconda and the NRL. There are two $2 coloured coins celebrating the 2024 National Rugby League Men's (NRL) and Women's (NRLW) Premierships, and 17 x $1 coins featuring the 17 x NRL teams.

Visit an Anaconda store to collect the $2 coloured coins by making a cash purchase in store for the chance to score the coins in your change. Anaconda is the exclusive distributor of the till coins.

The 17 team coins are not available through your change and are only available for purchase. These can be purchased either individually or in a 17-Coin collection, available at Anaconda stores and the Royal Australia Mint, while stocks last.

Visit an Anaconda store to collect the $2 coloured NRL and NRLW till coins by making a cash purchase in store for the chance to score the coins in your change. Anaconda is the exclusive distributor of the till coins.

The 17 team coins are not available through your change and are only available for purchase. These can be purchased either individually or in a 17-Coin Collection, available at Anaconda stores and the Royal Australian Mint's eShop, Contact centre and coin shop, while stocks last.

When will each coin be released?

Anaconda will release all products on Thursday 28 March 2024 at participating stores around the country. The Royal Australian Mint will release a limited amount of stock of the collection and team coins on the same date.

Are all of the coins available through Anaconda in change?

No, only the $2 coloured NRL and NRLW coins are available through change when making a purchase at Anaconda stores.

How do people 'collect' the coins?

From Thursday 28 March 2024, customers can visit an Anaconda store around Australia and make a cash purchase for the chance to find a collectable NRL or NRLW $2 coloured coin in their change.

The remainder of the coins are available for purchase only and can be purchased either individually or in a 17 coin collection, available at Anaconda stores and the Royal Australia Mint while stocks last.

How long will the coins be available through Anaconda's tills?

The duration of a coins availability will depend on the demand at individual Anaconda stores and is subject to availability.

I heard I can buy the coins individually or in a full set?

The 17 x $1 teams coins are available to purchase individually and are also available as a collection.

The collection consists of a tube containing the 17 x $1 team coins and an empty collection folder.

The $2 coloured NRL and NRLW coins are only available through change when making a purchase at Anaconda stores.

Are these coins real Australian currency?

Yes, these coins are Australian legal tender. They were minted by the Royal Australian Mint and have gone through the legislated approval process.

Will I definitely receive one of the $2 coloured coin in my change?

The NRL and NRLW coins will be released through participating Anaconda stores around Australia, subject to demand/availability. We recommend making a cash purchase at Anaconda stores during the promotional period to give you the best chance to collect the coins in your change. There is no guarantee which, if any, of the 2 coins you will receive in your change.

How many of these coins have been produced?

The numbers produced of each coin will be published in the Royal Australian Mints 2023-24 Annual Report.

If the memorial obverse of Queen Elizabeth II is not being used for any circulating coins, how are these coins being released?

The Mint's corporate programs are classed as 'Uncirculated Collectible Products' not as circulating coins.

Why are the coins exclusively available through Anaconda and not the banks?

The coin program is a custom minting program produced in partnership with the Royal Australian Mint and Anaconda, who will be releasing the $2 coloured NRL and NRLW coins through their cash tills.

Why are you commercialising Australian Legal Tender?

The Royal Australian Mint is tasked with recognising events and themes from our culture and history that are important to Australians. NRL's significance to Australia's sporting identity is unique and will provide the Mint with the opportunity to celebrate one the most loved and played sporting codes in Australia.

Will the coins be available to purchase in sachets and rolls?

Coins will not be available in sachets and rolls.

My coin/s is/are damaged?

The $2 coloured NRL and NRLW coins distributed through Anaconda cash tills are subject to the usual rigors of daily use which can cause wear and imperfections to coins.

The NRL $1 team coins that are available for purchase are uncirculated coins.

If a coin you purchased is damage, please return to the place of purchase for options regarding a replacement or refund.

Why are my coins in the tube scuffed/damaged?

The NRL team coins in the tubes have been produced to a finish where there are tolerances for slight imperfections.

Are there any special requirements to qualify to receive a coin in store at Anaconda?

The $2 coloured NRL and NRLW coins will be distributed to participating Anaconda stores as normal change. The only requirement is to make a cash purchase that requires change to be provided. It will be up to chance whether you receive the coin/s in change.

Why are people selling the NRL coins on eBay for higher values?

It is quite common during collector events for collectors to privately swap and sell the collectible items via online auction. The Mint does not have control over the secondary market.

Why did I receive a NRL or NRLW $2 coloured coin from another retailer?

After the release date, the $2 coloured NRL and NRLW coins will be in general circulation and you may come across one of the coins in your change.
