How should I ensure that I always Paddle Safe?
Understanding safe boating rules are critical, and you should check out the paddle safe advice from the Australia New Zealand Safe Boating Education Group before heading out on the water. Always be seen and safe, where bright colours and paddle in the daytime, staying close to the shore. If you are paddling at night, then you must follow the appropriate lighting requirements.
You must wear a life jacket at all times, and always check that all your equipment is in working order before heading out into the water. Be prepared, carry sufficient sun protection, and drinking water, and always dress appropriately for the weather conditions. Check out the local boating rules in your area, and keep clear of larger vessels. Prior to heading out on your water adventure, check the latest weather and wave reports and always make sure that someone else knows exactly where you are going to be. How should I maintain my new kayak?
Well, that does depend on which of our kayaks you have chosen, and we always recommend reading the manufacturer's care instructions carefully. Usually, a quick rinse with cold fresh water is all that is necessary to clean your kayak. This is particularly important if you have been out in salt water, as the residue from the ocean can have an adverse effect. Carry your kayak carefully, and avoid dragging it across the ground. This can cause scratches and have an adverse impact on the look and the performance of your boat.
