What size fuel hose/line do I need for my boat?

Fuel hose and tank fittings are available in various sizes for different types of boats, and Anaconda has a wide range of hoses and fittings to choose from. If your outboard engine is 115 HP or less, a 3/8" or 5/16" fuel line can be used. For engines larger than 115 HP, a 3/8" fuel line must be used.

What is the difference between the two fuel line sizes?

The major difference is obviously the size, although there are more things to consider. The 5/16" fuel hose is perfect for smaller outboard motors, allowing the proper amount of fuel to reach the engine. A 5/16" fuel hose won't provide enough fuel for larger outboard motors. The engine will run lean, with a huge amount of strain on the boat's fuel pumps.

Using the wrong fuel hose/line will ultimately cause premature failure of the fuel pumps and can cause major damage to the engine's powerhead. If you are running new fuel lines or re-powering your boat, check out the Anaconda range of products, all available at unbelievably low prices.

What are marine fuel hose ratings for?

There are different types of fuel hoses with specifications designed for various applications and boating safety. Above and below deck fuel lines are specially made for different environments. Fuel hose ratings are often classified as A1, A2, B1 and B2.

A1 Hoses: These hoses are used to feed fuel from the fuel tank to the engine or fuel filter bracket. A1 hoses have a fire-resistant covering and are designed to have fuel in them at all times.

A2 Hoses: These hoses are used below deck as the fuel tank vent hose. They are not designed to have fuel in them at all times, but do have a fire-resistant covering.

B1 Hoses: These hoses feed fuel from the boat's fuel tank to the fuel filter bracket above deck. They are not enclosed and don't have a fire-resistant covering.

B2 Hoses: These hoses are used above deck for the fuel tank vent hose. They are not enclosed and don't have a fire-resistant covering.

What about my specific boat engine?

The general rules above stand regardless of your engine's manufacturer. This includes Honda, Mercury, Suzuki, Yamaha, Evinrude and other premium makes. If yours is a large or small motor, combustion engine functionality and horsepower fuel demand remain the same for all makes and models.

The fuel line is connected to the engine via a 5/16" or 3/8" hose barb. Check out the specifications on your outboard motor or boat engine prior to purchasing. Anaconda stocks a wide range of tank fittings and hoses, some with universal application and others specifically manufactured for particular engine makes and models.
