What’s the difference between Pilates and yoga?
Pilates and Yoga have lots of similarities since both involve lots of mat work with activities that offer similar benefits like stress relief, flexibility, strength, balance and alignment. Both also have set poses that can sometimes overlap.
Pilates moves and poses are practised on the ground and focused on strengthening the core while counting reps and sets. Pilates also makes use of machines for many of its moves. Strengthening the core also makes the rest of the body stronger and more flexible.
Conversely, in yoga, you’re upright for most of the time with complex poses that train the flexibility of a broader range of muscle groups. Instead of counting reps and sets, yoga focuses more on endurance. Yoga also has a large spiritual component.
