Do I need to wear protective wear when playing soccer?

Every player on a soccer field must wear shin guards, and this is a mandatory rule that clubs and organisations will enforce. When playing soccer, your shins and ankles are being put under pressure and shin guards help protect from injuries during contact and reduce the risk of fractures and breakages. There are two different types of shin guards, commonly used, slip-ins and ankle shin guards. Slip-ins go underneath your sock or compression sleeve, whereas ankle shin guards are attached with a stirrup that runs under your foot. The latter provides more padding around your ankles and is particularly beneficial for younger or less experienced players.

In order for your shin guards to offer maximum protection, it is very important that they are the right size. Your shin guards should cover the majority of your lower leg, between your ankle and 2 inches below your knee. They should fit firmly to your shins and not come loose as they will not be able to provide optimum protection. Prior to making your purchase, measure the wearer’s lower leg and check this in relation to the measurements by each product. Remember that when you are looking for the right shin pads, you should choose them with regards to the wearer’s height rather than their age.

Is there anything else I need to remember when playing soccer?
