NZ Trails to die for!
Another summer, another mountain biking trip to the best trails in the world. I love my life!
Rotorua is undoubtedly a world class hub of mountain bike riding, with the main mountain biking park Whakarewarewa Forest only 15 minutes from the city and over 100km’s of fast and flowing single trails, it rocks!
The trails catered for all skill levels and we always found a great loop depending on what type of riding we wanted to do that day. We rode trails that ranged from smooth snaking single tracks to muddy rainforest back country trails onto high speed downhill runs complete with plenty of jumps and berms.
After exploring most of the trails in the forest we also headed to Lake Taupo and the famous Moerangi Trail in the Whirinaki forest, two of the many other amazing riding locations within a couple of hours drive. I would highly recommend the W2K track for entry level riders that hugs the coast of Lake Taupo, the views over the lake will take your breath away, even more so than the riding. For the more advanced riders make sure you ride the Moerangi track for one of the best mountain biking experiences of your life, think old growth rainforest, big valleys, steep climbs, river crossings and a very rewarding downhill finish.
Even after three weeks we could have kept exploring new trails, and riding the old ones over and over again. If you ever thought about taking your bike on a holiday, take it to Rotorua (or hire one from one of the many local bike shops) and get dirty!
