Week 20: Boys Fishing Trip!

I had an awesome four days away with a group of mates up to the mid North Coast of NSW. We stayed at Macksville which enabled us to fish South West Rocks, Scotts Head and The Nambucca River.

The first afternoon we caught worms on the beach, and then had some fun catching whiting, bream and flathead off the beach.

Day two saw us popper fishing for whiting in the morning, followed by some fresh water bass fishing on the surface in the afternoon. The following day we chased flatheads on lures in the Nambucca River & that afternoon we headed down the beach from grassy head to fish the northern wall of South West Rocks, hoping for a mulloway, but we had no luck!

The light winds and small swell on day three allowed us to launch our 5m Quintrex Hornet & Quintrex 460 Top Ender off the beach ramp at Scotts Head. First stop was to gather live bait; there were schools of slimy mackerel breaking up around our boat. Once we loaded up on these terrific live baits, we headed straight to the nearby reef to try our luck for Spanish & Spotted Mackerel. The afternoon turned out to be a beauty with a Spanish Mackerel, Spotted Mackerel & Cobia coming on board!

The action really hotted up for my brother Michael who skippered the Top Ender to put my good mate Paul onto a nice 25kg Black Marlin, which topped off a fantastic 3 days of fishing!
