Can I purchase mens footwear accessories at Anaconda?

Yes, you can! In this range, you will find a selection of socks for men, as well as handy toe warmers for cyclists and a range of specialist footwear cleaning, protection and waterproofing products that will keep your footwear looking its best and functioning optimally in all conditions.

Why do we wear socks?

Socks have been around for a very long time - some people think they were already in use during the Ice Age. They began as simple wrappings made of animal skins that were wound around the feet. It is believed that it was the Romans who introduced the modern sock in the first or second century AD. These socks, or udones, where much like modern ankle socks, and almost completely replaced the previous Roman practice of wrapping the foot and ankle in strips of cloth. Over the centuries that followed, socks changed with the fashions, going to full-length hose, knee-length stockings, and finally to the wide variety of socks that are seen and worn today.

Apart from keeping your feet warm, wearing socks benefits both the foot and the shoe in other ways. Socks prevent shoes from rubbing against feet, and socks also prevent the moisture, flakes and oils that come from human skin from soaking into the shoe, thereby prolonging their life.

What should I look for when choosing socks?

There are many different styles of socks on offer. Here are some of the things to look at when making your selection:

Length: socks are available in different lengths from ankle socks, to socks that finish about mid-calf, and socks that go up to or sometimes even over the knee.

Material: Cotton socks will help to keep your feet cool and dry by wicking moisture away from the skin. Wool socks will help keep your feet warm while allowing the foot to breathe. Nylon or polyester socks are warm too, but will offer less air circulation. Thermal socks are particularly good in cold climates, as they protect the core temperature while wicking away moisture.

Thin or thick? In certain conditions, the thickness of the sock will play a part. Runners or cyclists may want thin socks, while walkers and hikers may prefer the extra protection of thicker socks. Cotton socks will never be quite as thin as some nylon or polyester socks, due to the fibres used.

Compression socks: Research has been mixed on how well items like compression socks help you when you're running, but when it comes to post-exercise help, plenty of research supports the link between the use of compression socks and decreased post-exercise soreness.

What else is included in the range?

The mens footwear accessories range also includes a range of footwear care products, which include products for cleaning and treating different types of footwear, as well as products that can be used to (re)waterproof your footwear. Depending on the use and how you have cleaned your footwear, you may need to reproof shoes after a period of time. Take a look at the various options available for different materials used to make footwear, such as leather, suede, canvas and others.

Lastly, this range includes toe warmers, which can be worn over cycling shoes in winter. Wearing them on your shoes counteracts the heat loss from open (mesh) sections of the shoes that allow for air circulation in warmer periods, and helps to keep your feet warmer.
