What are some recommended tackle options for saltwater?

Fishing lures, floats and fishing tackle can be straightforward when it comes to freshwater, but what about those saltwater lures? As you might know, there is a variety of fishing tackle that can be implemented in saltwater, and they all have their specific range of benefits. If you are not yet familiar with saltwater tackles and lures, check out our recommendations below:

  • Spoon Lure & Terminal Tackle: The spoon has become a staple for many anglers, as this is one of the best-known and most reliable lures for saltwater fishing. Naturally, there are some variations of spoon lures out there, this includes single hooks, treble hooks and loads more. While no specific spoon lure is better than the other, it is a good idea to have a variety of them at your disposal. This way, you can test the waters and see which one works best, no pun intended!
  • Shrimp Bait: Not a lure per se, but it is still worth mentioning here. A lot of predatory saltwater fish adore some shrimp bait, so you should certainly consider adding it to your arsenal. You can use this bait with some of the fishing tackle lures mentioned and you can even obtain lures to resemble shrimp as well. What fish could resist all that?
  • Bucktail Jig: Another great fishing tackle lure for saltwater is the bucktail jig. Jigging is extremely popular for saltwater anglers, as this type of fishing moves vertically as opposed to horizontally. Of course, you will need dedicated equipment for jigging, this goes from the lure to the rod and line you are using. Bucktail jigs are available in many colours and designs, yet the white bucktail tends to be one of the most successful jigs to work with. There are also some additional accessories that can be used in combination with this type of fishing tackle lure, which in turn makes them even more attractive for those saltwater fish.
  • Topwater Popper: The topwater popper is one of the best lures to use in saltwater. Like the other lures mentioned, these popper lures are available in different colours, designs and coatings. However, if you want a safe bet that can be used in a variety of situations, we always suggest the topwater popper with a white design. Prices for topwater lures can vary considerably. The basic topwater fishing tackle lures tend to be very affordable but there are more advanced versions that can cost a little more. Naturally, the more advanced versions are more likely to catch the attention of big game fish.
  • Jerkbait: When you do not want to spend too much on fishing tackle that can solely be used in saltwater, you should consider jerkbait. Jerkbait is usually made from a soft plastic and it can be used in both saltwater and freshwater. So, instead of buying a lure that you can solely use in saltwater, you will have one for other fishing waters too. Most jerkbait lures are used relatively high in the water column.
