What are the components of a spinning reel?

A spinning reel is made up from the following parts:

  • Spool: The spool is the part that the fishing line is wound on
  • Handle: When the handle turns, line is forced back into the reel
  • Bail: The bail is a metal arm that is designed to regulate the line while it is coming out of the spool
  • Reel Foot: The reel foot is the piece that connects the rod to the reel
  • Drag Knob: The drag knob allows you to set how easily line can come out of the spool when the bail is closed
  • Line Roller: The line roller accurately guides the line from the spool to the rod

What are the pros and cons of spinning reels?

Spinning reels are great for the fisherman who is just starting out. Casting and reeling in is simple enough, meaning that almost anyone can learn how to use a spinning rod in a relatively short amount of time. They are easy to use and are quite versatile, handling a wide array of types of line, lures, and bait.

Spinning reels can be combined with almost anything in your tackle box, but they work best with lighter lines and lures. You do not have to worry as much about tangling your line when casting light gear across far distances or into the wind.

The focus on lighter equipment makes the spinning reel great for catching small to medium-sized fish.

A spinning reel is also easier to side cast, which is useful if you are restricted for space like when fishing from under low-hanging tree branches. The side cast allows for easier manoeuvrability to avoid branches.

The main downside of the spinning reel is that it is more difficult to use heavier lines and tackle with it. A spinning reel has a narrower spool which makes it more difficult to use a large diameter line and lacks the power a baitcasting reel has.

Spinning reels are also less accurate unless handled by an experienced fisherman. It may take several casts to find the perfect amount of line to use to land your bait exactly where you want it to go.

Does Anaconda sell other types of reel too?

Yes, as well as the large range of spinning reels, Anaconda also sells various baitcasting reels, as well as many other types of fishing equipment, clothing, storage, accessories and essentials.
