What fish species should I target with swimbaits?

Swimbaits are ideal whenever you're targeting large predatory fish. Species like barramundi, Murray cod, mulloway and snapper find it hard to go past a well-presented swimbait. What's more, smaller predators like trout, bass, bream and flathead are also great to target with a swimbait lure.

How should I fish with swimbaits?

While most lures are designed to imitate the fish's prey, few go as far as the swimbait to produce a life-like action. Swimbaits are made from several interconnected segments that move back and forth in unison as the lure moves through the water, producing an extremely convincing swimming motion.

Swimbaits come in a range of sizes and can be fished anywhere in the water column, depending on where your target species are holding. They're an incredibly versatile lure and are effective in an array of situations. For best results, think about the natural prey your target species is feeding on and choose a swimbait that matches that presentation. For example, if there are large numbers of a specific baitfish in the area, try to match your lure to that species.
