Can I buy bicycle pumps and inflation systems at Anaconda?
Yes, you can. Regardless of whether you are an occasional bike user or a regular bike enthusiast, we have the tools you need to make sure you don’t end up with a flat tyre. Here at Anaconda, you can choose from portable pumps that can be clamped to your bike or stored in your pocket or backpack, to sturdy foot pumps and CO2 inflators. Our range also includes pumps with gauges, so you are able to check your tyre pressure and a handy adaptor particularly designed for Presta valves.
What types of bicycle pumps are included in the range?
We stock bicycle pumps that are suitable for use at home or in the garage, and that are often referred to as floor pumps or track pumps. This style of pump will almost always offer a long flexible hose, and a large chamber for quick air transfer. Some models also feature a pressure gauge. For use away from home, you may want to have a mini pump, or portable pump. Portable pumps are designed for emergencies or occasional use and so are kept compact and light. This means they are not as effective as floor pumps and are best used as a second pump rather than your main one.
What is the procedure with CO2 inflators?
For serious cyclists, CO2 inflators are an ideal (if expensive) way to get back to riding quickly. The CO2 canisters are single use only, so you have to weigh up the pros and cons of using them before deciding to use this system rather than a mini pump. Different brands use different methods and not everything is compatible either, so make sure you do your homework if you don’t want a long walk home!
What other things should I consider when buying a bicycle pump?
Pressure, volume and gauge accuracy are all things that may play a part in your decision of which bicycle pump to buy. The other thing to keep in mind is the fact that there not every bicycle has the same tyre valves. Presta (racing style) and Schrader (car style) are the two most common valve types, with a Woods valve occasionally appearing too. Nearly all pumps these days will cater for at least Presta and Schrader, but some are easier to use than others.
Some pumps are valve-specific, others must be changed internally to fit various valves. A twin-valve head will have two separate slots for either valve, while a ‘smart-head’ will automatically adjust to the various valve sizes. Then there’s the thread-on style, which offers a reliable fit, but needs to be ‘flipped and changed’ depending on your desired valve.
For mini pumps, you may also want to consider weight and size, especially if you have to do long journeys or will be climbing many hills.
Of course, here at Anaconda you can also find many other bicycle tools and accessories, so take a look at our whole cycling range to see if you have everything you need before setting off on your next trip.
