Can I purchase bike maintenance tools at Anaconda?

Yes, you can. Bikes are a great way to get about but with the many moving parts, it is inevitable that at some point you will need to repair, adjust or replace something. If you do not have a bike repair shop in the neighbourhood, want to save money or simply enjoy working on your bike yourself, Anaconda has a wide range of useful tools to make sure you can deal with inflating tyres, changing them, replacing chains, or do all manner of other repairs as well as cleaning jobs on your bike.

What are the main things I should look after on my bike?

Here are our top tips for getting the most out of your bike:

1. Keep it clean: If there is one thing you can do to prolong the life of your bike, it is keeping it clean. Tedious, but true. No fancy cleaning kit required – a bucket of soapy water, a sponge and an old toothbrush is all you need, though a proper degreaser will help break down the oil and grit in the bike chain and gear sprockets.

2. Check your brakes: Worn brake pads equal poorly working brakes. You can tell they are worn if you can hardly see the grooves anymore. Screeching brakes are often dirty brakes, or at least dirty wheel rims. Clean and dry both properly and most of the time that will solve your problem. If your brakes have become sluggish and lacklustre – i.e. if you squeeze the brake lever and it moves more than halfway towards the handlebars – you need to tighten them up. Find the tools you need at Anaconda, and online video’s will teach you how to do this.

3. Keep your tyres inflated properly: Poorly inflated tyres are prone to punctures. Check them before setting off, and for longer trips, it is a good idea to make sure you have a pump strapped to your bike frame. If you are using a pump with a pressure gauge, you can look on the side of your tyre for a number followed by the letters PSI, to find out how much air to put in.

4. Lubrication: Buy some bike lubricant and use it sparingly on any parts of your bike where metal touches metal. There is no point oiling your chain unless you have cleaned it properly first as you will be making matters worse. As well as your bike chain, brake levers, arms and chains can also do with lubricating regularly for optimal performance.

What else is included in the range?

If you are a bike enthusiast and spend much time looking after your bike or bikes, you may want to invest in a handy folding work stand. This will enable you to work at a comfortable height when cleaning and repairing your bike, and the fact that the bike is off the ground will also make it much easier to perform maintenance on the tyres, or to test if your wheels are running true.

Puncture repair kits are also included in the range. Compact and lightweight, they may just save you from a long walk if you get into trouble while out riding your bike, so worth having in your saddle bag or backpack for emergencies!
