Can I buy first aid kits from Anaconda?

Yes, you can. Here at Anaconda, we recommend that you always have a first aid kit available, accidents happen, and it is always better to be prepared. We have a wide collection of ready-made first aid kits available, whether you are looking for a portable kit for those all day treks or something more substantial, we have the first aid kit to fit your needs.

Why should I have a first aid kit?

Minor injuries can become more serious if they are not treated properly, putting you at risk of infection. We recommend that you always have a first aid kit on hand, and that you have one stored at home and in your car. When out and about, you can also carry a smaller, more portable kit so that you are able to prevent minor injuries becoming more serious wherever you are. From less severe problems to more serious ailments, a first aid kit can help you to respond quickly and effectively

What should be included in my first aid kit?

Well, that depends really on where the first aid kit will be stored and what dangers you are likely to face in that area. All first aid kits should include dressings, antiseptic products, tape, a face shield for CPR, and gloves to reduce the transmission of infectious diseases. Choose the size of your new first aid kit in relation to what you are doing, and the amount of people that could, potentially, need first aid at some point.

What basic first aid should I be aware of?

First Aid is an important skill and can be the difference between life and death. By performing simple procedures and being aware of relevant guidelines, you could help to keep someone alive until professional medical help is available. All of our first aid kits come equipped with basic first aid guidelines, and you should always be fully aware of these before embarking on your trip.

Before administering first aid, try to remember the 3 Cs:

Check: Check the environment carefully to ensure that there is no immediate danger to either yourself or the casualty. This is particularly important for snake bites, as the snake may still be in the area.

Call: Call 000 for emergency services, if you feel that the situation is life-threatening or time-critical. Medical emergencies can include a loss of consciousness, chest pain, severe bleeding, severe allergic reactions and breathing difficulties, amongst others. Calling for help in some situations, such as a heart attack for a stroke, is critical, as every second count.

Care: Provide first aid care for your casualty.

How can I reduce the risk of infection?

Even the smallest of cuts can be dangerous in the great outdoors as a result of the risk of infection. In non life-threatening situations always ensure that you wash your hands before administering first aid. Wear gloves to reduce any risk of the transmission of blood-borne diseases. You should also always carry a bottle of water, not only will this help to prevent dehydration but fresh, clean water is critical for making sure that any wounds are effectively cleaned. Finally, cover the wound with a clean, sterile dressing, particularly if it is exposed and at risk of getting dirty, or is likely to rub on clothes.

Is there anything else I need to remember?

Ensure that you first aid kit is locked at all times and that it is stored in a cool, dry place that is out of the reach of children. You should check and restock your first aid kit regularly to ensure that you have all of the necessary items available. In particular, check the medicines that you have in your first aid kit and their use-by dates. Choose your first aid kit carefully and try to predict the possible dangers that you may come across in your chosen activity.
