What’s included in the range of towing accessories at Anaconda?

There is a wide choice of hitches out there, and various different parts are needed for each. Here, at Anaconda, we hope to everything that you could possibly need for towing, including:

Mirrors: We have a selection of mirrors available, helping you to see the blind spots when you are towing and extending your vision for safer driving

Protective Gear: From shin protectors to covers, we have a range of protective gear designed to safeguard you, your vehicle and your precious cargo.

Pins: We also stock a collection of pins for your hitch, including essentials such as cotter pins and pull pins.

Hitch Locks: To ensure that your gear is both safe and secure, check out Anaconda’s selection of hitch locks.

Jockey wheels: Our high-quality jockey wheels have been purposely designed to improve your towing experience.

Tow balls: We also have a selection of two balls available. Check the size of the tow ball in relation to your desired load, most trailers require a 2’’ ball, but some larger loads could require a larger size.

Awning tensioner: An awning tensioner will ensure that the fabric on your awning is kept pulled taught, preventing noise, wear and tear from loose flapping fabric.

What do I need to consider before towing?

There are a few things that you need to consider before choosing your hitch and towing your vehicle, including:

Base curb weight: this is the weight of your entire vehicle and any other additional equipment.

Cargo: includes the weight of all passengers, cargo and any other optional equipment

Allowable Payload: the maximum amount of weight a vehicle is able to carry, you should be able to find this in your car or truck’s owner’s manual.

Tongue weight: Tongue weight refers to the downward force that is applied from the tongue of your vehicle to the hitch. When this is improperly calculated, it can result in increased trailer sway and an increased risk of accidents. This is dependent upon your vehicle and trailer, but most recommended that you set tongue weight at 9-14% of the trailers total weight for stability.

Your Vehicle: Before you begin, you need to know the towing capacity of your vehicle. Check your owner’s manual, as pulling a too heavy load can have a significantly negative impact on your vehicle's engine. You should also ensure that your vehicle is in peak condition before embarking on your journey, paying particular attention to your breaks.

Any tips for a successful journey and preventing trailer sway?

When you are towing significant weights on the road, safety should always be your top priority. Trailer sway is dangerous, and the number one cause of trailer accidents is caused by the side forces on the trailer causing it to move side to side behind the tow vehicle. It can be caused by gusts of winds or a large passing truck, but there are also some things that you can do to help reduce the risk. For example, consider weight distribution, both with regard to your tongue weight and the weight distribution of your cargo. Try to avoid travelling in windy conditions and do not make any sudden turns. You should always check tire pressure often and pay close attention to your mirrors at all times. To reduce the risks when towing and to reduce fuel costs and emissions, always travel at moderate speeds.
