How to clean Birkenstock sandals

With a little bit of care and attention, it's easy to clean your Birks and have them looking their best! Make sure you take note of the materials your Birkenstock sandals are made from before you start:

• Remove coarse dirt: For Nubuck leather or suede, use a brush. For smooth leather, use a slightly dampened lint-free cloth. If necessary, the brush can be dampened to clean the underside of the sole.
• Clean with a damp brush: Large, slightly dampened shoe brush to clean the inside and outside of the straps. The footbed can be cleaned with an old toothbrush, using circular motions and a little leather shampoo.
• Remove the lather: With lukewarm water, wet a cloth and use it to wipe away the soap. Do not hold the sandals under running water.
• Let dry completely: Leave to dry at room temperature - this should take around 24 hours. As a final step, brush the footbed with a leather brush. Do not leave your Birks to dry in the sun or on a radiator!

How should my Birkenstocks fit?

Ensuring the correct fit for any footwear is the first step to happy and healthy feet! Follow these simple steps to check the fit of your Birkenstock sandals:

• Open all the straps and place your feet inside the footbed. They should sit comfortably within the contours, with your toes and heels not resting on any edges.
• Buckle up the straps. They should feel comfortable and not too tight - ideally, you should be able to fit a finger's width between the strap and your foot. Remember, the support comes from the footbed, not the tightness of the straps!

Break in your new Birks by wearing them for 2 to 3 hours at the beginning, so that your feet can get used to the footbed.
